The Wise Penny is hosting a Trinkets & Treasures Sale on Saturday, February 11 from 10 am to 5pm. I recommend getting a sneak peak by buying tickets for their Early Buyers Event on Friday, February 10. Tickets are $10. The Wise Penny is a thrift store located on York Road in Baltimore, which is owned and operated by the Junior League of Baltimore. The Wise Penny sells new and “gently used” clothing and household items. Proceeds from the store are used to fund community projects.

As I boot up my trusty PowerBook, I can’t help but to think about it’s innovative inventor, Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs encouraged us all to think different and to design better. He inspired the world to dream. Who needs a PC when you have your candy colored iPad. I remember my first computer, a Christmas present from my grandparents, an Apple IIGS. What did I take to college, my trusty Apple PowerPc. A budding career in graphic design, my computer of choice, the PowerMac G4. Innovation after innovation, every step along the way was paved by Steve Jobs.

We didn’t think that you would leave us so soon. Rest in peace, Mr. Jobs.

Ten years and the blink of an eye. The hole in my heart still hurts. God bless the victims and the families of the victims of that terrible day.

My deepest apologies for no blog posts this week, its been a busy one; weddings, teaching, and the looming thesis proposal deadline. Between Tuesday’s earthquake (seriously an earthquake?) and the quickly approaching Hurricane Irene, I have been running ragged. I got my groceries, gas, flashlights, board games, and batteries. Hoping to answer a few more Ask Preppy Girls before I loose power. Stay safe this weekend!

Wimbledon Center Court

Strawberries, Ralph Lauren, and amazing tennis. There’s nothing I look forward to more than the Wimbledon Championships–except for maybe a royal wedding. Its been an exciting week of play and I am so happy to see both Venus and Serena back and fighting their way into week two.

Men’s Players to Watch:

  • Novak Djokovic – Gluten free and going strong
  • Roger Federer – Mr. Tennis, approaching the ripe old age of “30″ will he be able to pull off another Wimbledon title?
  • John Isner – Known for his record breaking match against Nicolas Mahut, how far will he advance this year?
  • Andy Murray – Hometown favorite, made it to the semi finals the past 2 years
  • Rafael Nadal – So cute,  ranked number 1 and just won his 6th French Open
  • Jo-Wilfried Tsonga – Showed true sportmanship in his defeat of Dimitrov

Women’s Players to Watch:

  • Li Na – Looking great after her French Open win
  • Maria Sharapova – Maria is looking strong, maybe this is her year?
  • Serena Williams – Back after 2 foot surgeries, can she hang on to her title? I hope so!
  • Venus Williams – Looking statuesque in her self-designed dress from her EleVen line
  • Caroline Wozniacki – Ranked number 1 in women’s tennis, she has only been able to advance to the 4th round of Wimbledon
