It’s the Jerry Springer of wedding shows, completely unpreppy, but my favorite reality program. Who can resist watching Burberry-clad bitches throwing world-class temper tantrums while lashing out at bridesmaids and anyone who dares to get in the way? OK, a lot of people, but it is great late-night entertainment. So popular in fact that it is back for its sixth season on WeTV.
What other tv program screens potential brides with innocent questions such as “Are your wedding preparations getting out of control? Are you struggling with the cooperation of your wedding party, fiancé or in-laws?” I would love to be a fly on the wall at a Bridezillas casting call.
If you are as entralled with this show as I am, read bios of the brides on WeTV’s web site. Watch the new episodes on Sundays at 9pm– even better, Bridezillas HD on demand.

After a couple of days of trudging around in the cold rain, I saw the silver lining. On second thought, plaid lining is more appropriate. I rediscovered Burberry. Cue EC’s “Hello Old Friend.” After a summer of beach fun, I had forgotten about my favorite fall staple; the Burberry trench coat. Originally designed as a British Officer’s coat, this preppy icon has been around for nearly one hundred years. My mom brought back two Burberry’s from her years abroad in London. Her gabardine trench circa 1974 is still the coolest coat I have ever seen.

So I finally got around to watching Grey Gardens, on an ironically gray, Saturday morning. The film features Drew Barrymore and Emmy-winning, Jessica Lange. They did an outstanding job portraying the eccentric mother and daughter duo of Edith Bouvier Beale; the aunt and first cousin of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. The film documents the eccentric lives of Park Avenue princesses who have withdrawn from New York society. They refuge in each other and their beautiful Long Island summer home, Grey Gardens. I thoroughly enjoyed the film, but then again, I enjoy any movie that involves chasing your dreams and living in a gorgeous beach house.

I love Halloween, it is my favorite non-summer holiday. This year, I am going as a Valley Girl Vampire. Here are a few preppy ideas if you still need a disguise.
- Toga! Toga! – Beloved costumed straight from Animal House. Tommy Bahama sheets optional.
- Audry Hepburn ala Breakfast at Tiffany’s
- Sailor – Everyone loves sailors, the preppiest of costumes. Grab a striped shirt and your boat shoes and you are all set!
- Michele Obama – Super preppy role model
- Spy – Great excuse to stay warm and wear your Burberry raincoat
- Valley Girl – 1980s style
- Private School Student – Wear your old uniform, even better- wear your old gym uniform! This only works if you are past your high school days.
- Lacrosse Player – Everyone loves a lacrosse player!
- Your Parents – Hardcore Preps
- The Shopaholic – Carry a bunch of shopping bags from Bloomingdale’s, J. Crew, and Tiffany’s

If you have not already heard, I am sad to report that respected magazine publisher, Condé Nast, announced that is closing a few of my favorite magazines including Gourmet and Modern Bride. This comes as a complete shock, Gourmet is my go-to mag for the classiest of foods and eateries. Even as a little girl, I remember looking through my mummy’s back issues of the magazine. Bon Appetite, another Condé Nast foodie mag, will remain open. So say au revoir as another bastion of good taste bites the dust.
