Ask Preppy Girl – Bargain Hunting

If you have a question for the Preppy Girl email it to me at preppygirl@thepreppylife.com.

Hello Preppy Girl,

I’m not poor, but my parents don’t get me a lot of clothes and think that I should use my own money. I love being preppy and it’s hard because I don’t own a lot of preppy clothes. I was looking for advice on things to get on the cheap side. I love Lilly Pulitzer, Ralph Lauren, J. Crew, and Vineyard Vines, but I just can’t afford $250 dresses.

Thanks!

Dear Cheap Prep,
I feel your pain. Clothing is expensive, especially all of the great preppy brands! I don’t remember the last time I bought clothing at full price. I typically try to shop all of the sales and use web coupons for additional discounts. Sign up for emails from all of your favorite brands, they often send discount codes and exclusive sales information. I also like to run a search on all of the coupon sites before making an online purchase, you never know what sales code might turn up. TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Nordstrom Rack, and Loehmanns are great places to bargain hunt for designer clothes. I also like to shop Old Navy for basics like flips flops, ts, sweaters, and camis. And don’t forget your family, look through your sister’s, mother’s, and grandmother’s closets. You never know what preppy treasure you can find from cute cardigans to retro handbags. Just make sure to ask before borrowing! The Goodwill, secondhand stores, and eBay are also great sources for preppy clothes.
I hope that helps!
– P.G.
