My Rescued Pup

There is a bill making its way through the Maryland State Senate proposing to ban the sale of puppies under 9 months old in pet stores. According to the National Humane Society, the majority of puppies sold in Maryland pet stores are from puppy mills. If the bill passes, puppy-lovers will still be able to buy puppies directly from breeders, non-profits, and rescue organizations.

I  am really conflicted about this bill. Will preventing the sale of puppies stop the puppy mills? As much as I care for the welfare of dogs, I am afraid this bill could add even more insult to injury. If Maryland really wants to take a stand against puppy mills, they should make the operation of puppy mills illegal.

So if you are contemplating getting a dog, do not go to the pet store. Adopt a puppy from the local pound or rescue organization instead and if you are looking for a great name for your new pooch, check out the Top Ten Preppy Dog Names.

I love the Jersey Shore, it is quickly becoming my favorite reality TV show.  Blame it on the cold weather and beach withdrawal, this show is totally addicting. It makes me want to book a trip to Seaside Heights and hook up with some guidos. The anthesis of everything preppy, who can resist watching the latest drama unfold with Snookie, Sammi, JWoww, Pauly D, Vinny, Ronnie, and “the Situation.” The show airs every Thursday at 10pm on MTV but you can catch full episodes here.

Have you ventured to the mall recently? I think we skipped Thanksgiving and went straight to Christmas. I know we are in the tail end of a recession, but do retailers really have to put their Christmas decorations up so early? Shopping for candy at Target, I spotted Christmas decorations mingling the with Halloween decor. There is barely a chill in the air and the malls have us standing in line with Frosty. I love Christmas time, but it hard to maintain the magic of the holidays when shopping malls fast-forward our seasons.

What other tv program screens potential brides with innocent questions such as “Are your wedding preparations getting out of control? Are you struggling with the cooperation of your wedding party, fiancé or in-laws?” I would love to be a fly on the wall at a Bridezillas casting call.
