So the holidays are over and football is coming to a close…Now, what to do for some chilly fun? Not everyone is crazy as me and includes running as a winter sport (in case you didn’t see the streak of black and Ravens purple being blown around Baltimore this morning). For the sane, there are plenty of preppy sports that actually require the ice and snow. Just be sure to bundle up!

  • Skiing – the ultimate preppy winter sport with great destinations such as Tahoe, Aspen, Breckenridge, and Jackson Hole to name a few, not to mention all of the great ski clothes.
  • ice skates

    Move Over Johnny Weir!

  • Cross Country Skiing – if I lived in Alaska, I would cross-country ski everywhere
  • Ice Skating – for the graceful preps
  • Ice Hockey – for the tough preps
  • Snowshoeing – like lacrosse sticks for your feet
  • Tobogganing – great for cuddling up on snowy dates

…and never discount the ever popular snowball fight.

2010 was a great year at the Preppy Life. We answered a lot of fantastic emails, had a top tweet according to Washington Life Magazine, and even placed second as the Best Pop Culture Blog for the 2010 Mobbie Awards. Here’s to an even better 2011!

Unlike the 1939 Frank Capra classic, I spent just a few hours in D.C. this past Tuesday, soaking in the scene and touring the National Gallery. No politics for me, despite the rockstar parking meter I scored in the Federal Triangle.

Located on the Mall, the impressive National Gallery consists of two buildings, the neoclassical West Building and the contemporary East Building, a dream come true for an art nerd like me. These buildings house some of my favorite works of art including paintings by Cezanne, Monet, George Bellows, Charles Demuth, Roy Lichtenstein, and Mark Rothko, to name a few.

If you have the chance, I highly recommend a trip to D.C.
