This is one of the few times of am jealous of men’s fashion. Stolen Riches is a brand of men’s dress laces that come in bold colors, giving our guys a little fashion freedom. Unique colors like Moville Green, Buster Purple, and my favorite, Isolar Silver (named for David Bowie’s production company) brighten up an otherwise boring dress shoe. Made in Canada using a special nylon core, Stolen Riches has been carefully crafting premium shoe laces since 1915. I was particularly impressed with their packaging, which comes complete with a nifty lace tying guide.

Hi Preppy Girl!
I am a college senior in DC and I just got accepted to study abroad in London for the month of January (eekk)! I want to start getting outfits together now so I know that I will look picture perfect everyday! I have the typical: leggings, boots, scarves, pea coat looks, but I wanted to branch out a little bit since I’ll be in one of the largest fashion capitals in the world! What are some flairs I can add to my outfits to stand out but still be preppy?

Dear UK Prep,
Congrats on being accepted to study abroad! You will absolutely love the UK. My advice is to not buy too much clothing now, wait till you get to London! Between Harrods, Topshop, Liberty of London, and Burberry, you will be shipping home boxes of your new clothes.

That being said, one of my favorite looks is black skinny trousers paired with black pumps, a long white button down shirt, and a blazer. I think that look is really street style chic. Look for shirts with unique details or tunics to pair with leggings. Check out the accessories department of H&M, they have lots of inexpensive trendy belts and jewelry. London has a lot of “rock and roll” style. Look for edgy jewelry to dress up an otherwise preppy outfit. A great shade of lipstick will also work wonders.

Knot (don’t buckle) the belts at your upper waist over loose fitting shirts or sweaters for a more fitted look. I would pack a couple of interesting scarves, they fit easily into a suitcase and are able to transform a boring blazer or shirt. Remember to pack shoes that are comfy to walk in! You will probably do a lot of walking.

I hope you enjoy London! That will be such a fantastic experience.

Dear Preppy Girl,

I’m from the UK and school ends in a week for the summer! I’m going to London for 3 weeks for a summer school, and I only have 2 weeks to get ready. I want a preppy wardrobe. Obviously this doesn’t give me much time, what clothes do you think would be most essential for the summer school?

I’m also looking for a pleated skirt at a reasonable price, but can’t actually find one! Bearing in mind that I’m in the UK do you have any suggestions?

Dear Summer Shopping,
Thank you for reading my blog. I am honored to have readers in the UK. It sounds like you have a great summer ahead of you!

I would try to find clothes that transition well from school to social gatherings such as skirts and summer dresses. Dresses are so easy and by adding a light-weight cardigan you can take a fun, sleeveless dress to school appropriate. A khaki skirt is one of my favorite summer staples, they are so versatile. By adding jewelry and a stylish top you can take a khaki skirt in so many directions. Brightly-colored capri pants are another great item for summer. I like to dress up capris with cute little kitten heels and a short sleeve top. Polos are another classic look for summer. Look for shirts in vibrant hues like orange and kiwi, they will look great with the ever-powerful khaki skirt or capris and transition well to Fall.

I really can’t speak to all of the fabulous UK brands, but I do love the summer clothes at the Topshop, such as their yellow, pleated skirt and their fun, color block skirts.
