I am saddened to see so many of my favorite lacrosse teams, like Delaware, Loyola, and JHU, knocked out so early in the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament. Sorry, Regis, I am rooting for Maryland in the semi-finals. I hope they take Notre Dame down! The tournament wraps up Memorial Day weekend, when the final four teams battle it out in Baltimore to win a place in Monday’s championship game. If you can’t make it to the game, you can still check out all of the action on ESPN2.

With the off-season approaching, I hope the coaches check out LacrosseRecruits.com, this web site shows off the skills of some of the area’s hottest lacrosse players. Recently, I had to do one of the many things that scares me; and I am not talking about my bumpy flight back from Amelia Island.  I had to give a wedding toast.  What is it that makes toasts so terrifying? I think it is the fact you actually have to say something meaningful. Ideally, you want a memorable toast; something that is charming, sweet, and well-delivered. Unless you are an amazing public speaker with a team of speech writers, this is quite a daunting task. How do you sum up years of friendship, love, and hope for the future in just a few paragraphs? You have me stumped.

Being the procrastinator that I am, I worked on my toast until I had to report for my “maid of honor” duties, hoping some new inspiration would hit me.  In the end, I borrowed a line from my uncle and surrendered to grandfather time.

Having crossed this major hurdle, here is my advice:

1. Speak from the heart, but don’t get too sappy.
2. Don’t ramble.
3. Remember to compliment the groom;
4. and practice, practice, practice.

And to all of  you wedding-goers out there, if you find yourself in the position of giving very last minute unsolicited advice to the toaster–please don’t! You will only annoy the speaker.

Dear Preppy Girl,

My boyfriend is all around perfect, except he has terrible shoes; beat-up mariachi sandals from a trip to Cozumel, a pair of Bucks that I swear he has been wearing since 9th grade, his dad’s old wingtips, Doc Marten boots, the list goes on and on. Sometimes I think he hasn’t bothered to go shoe shopping since 1999. I am not up to date on men’s shoes. Can you suggest a few pairs for my boyfriend?

It sounds like your man is having back luck in the shoe department. I suggest you take him shoe shopping ASAP!
